No Pet of His (Napoleon Bonaparte)

One of the world’s most famous of men

Never loved dogs, it was too much of a sin.

Napoleon Bonaparte rather hated canines,

Without such a burden he felt he did just fine.

Then one day when Napoleon was out on a boat

Perhaps enjoying the sea as they were adrift and afloat,

He slipped from his station and plunged into the water

The man was quite lucky the boat did not make it much farther.

For to this leader’s rescue came the heart of a beast,

Though Napoleon had shown no love, not in the least,

This Newfoundland dog came to his rescue

Saving the leader before he knew what to do.

And so it is true that even a man who loathed all of the kind

Soon had to admit that even they had benefits easy to find.

It did not change his opinion to much, he continued to hate them,

He just had less root from which the hatred could stem.
